185 Cool
- a once 'o month impromptu club (people actually live there) located
in the warehouse district. A really neato concept, mostly catering
to the local scene, packing in 5 and 6 eclectic artists to a bill
at every event. Something for everyone...keep your ear to the ground
for details.
Cotton Club - every city's gotta have a Cotton Club...
Dottie's - ahhhh.....the Fabulous Dottie's - notorious among
local bands, this dive is just too damn cool; seedy, raw, you'll
love it.
Driver Dome - straight edge venue, doesn't get much more
intimate than this (good luck finding it).
Echo
Lounge - Home to the latest WRAS benefit! The Echo Lounge
is the way it should be done...and on the cusp of a cool neighborhood
revitalization... A welcome change in the sea of clubs in Atlanta.
Eyedrum
- a non-profit outfit scheduling bands and artists from around the
underground scene: nationally as well as locally. A damn cool space
& vibe.
513 Club - new on the scene, located at 513 Edgewood Ave.,
this cool little joint is carving a name for itself with the ska,
punk and local crowd.
The Masquerade
- a monolith among the clubs in town; three levels (hell, purgatory
and heaven). A great place to see bands if you're in the mood to
rock 'n roll.
MJQ - though they don't have bands play all the time, as
a general rule of thumb: if they play MJQ, they're worth seeing.
Moreland Avenue Tavern - hell yes, that's all I gotta say.
This is what venues should be about.
The Point - located at ground zero in L5P. A pillar among
the small venues in town, this is where the indie rock crowds swarm.
Red Light
Cafe - a dark, intimate room; great way to see artists...
Smith's Old Bar - a great room to check out some local &
national acts.
The Star Bar - within spitting distance from the Point, this
is Atlanta's best rockabilly club, period.
Under the Couch - located on the Tech campus, this place
is a pain in the ass to find, but worth the hunt 'cos they book
damn fine acts.
Variety
Playhouse - a wonderful venue in the heart of L5P, although
it's bigger than other venues in the area, it is still incredibly
intimate.

Stomp
& Stammer - hands
down, the coolest monthly rag in the city covering indie and local
music the way they oughta be covered...with heaps of attitude &
know how.
The Degenerate
Press -
you never quite know what to expect from this camp. Not an official
print rag, rather, they thrive with a cool web site and keep everyone
up to date & keenly aware via e-mail.
The
Atlanta Sideshow
- versatile monthly rag overflowing with a collection of opinions
on art, music, movies and more, all comin' at you from an interesting
angle.
Ink 19 -
while some of our local music magazines sit around and get bogged
down in the dregs of ass kissing, Ink 19 are just too damn busy
for it. Every issue is slammed with insight, spilling over and nearly
overwhelming the reader while avoiding the boring old cliches most
reviewers so 'cleverly' (yawn) use.
The
Creative Loafing -
they've got some mighty cool folks keeping tabs of the national
scene. This is Atlanta's source for what to do & when to do it (a
lá - The Village Voice or TimeOut).
The Flagpole
- Athens'
scene keeper, check out this rag if you're heading to the land 'o
the bulldawgs.
