HALLOWEEN "HURRAH" IN LITTLE 5 POINTS
The first
"Halloween in L5P" event is to be held on Saturday,
October 27. The event is sponsored by Newcastle Brown Ale and
will feature a small festival and include promotions in local
resturants, bars, and retail shops. To top it all off, a halloween
parade is scheduled for all the festive "little fivers".
The purpose of the event is to highlight the creative diversity
of Little Five Points.
It all begins
at 2pm and will include fortune telling, a pumpkin carving contest,
an outdoor organic farmer's market, as well as an organised pagent
of sorts, where costumes will be judged for people and dogs as
well. The festival will also feature street entertainers.
This zany
Halloween Parade begins at 5pm and will consist of marching musical
units, self-built floats, specialty units, inflatable balloons,
and neighborhood celebrities. Displays will include the world
famous Seed & Feed marching Abominable, the Atlanta Freedom
Marching Band, the Queen of Leather, the Queen of Tattoo, drag
queens, punk queens, roller bladers, bicyclers, motorcycle enthusiasts,
art cars, and L5P drill teams. Also participating are dancing
witches, red devils, ghosts, purple wizards, black cats, and the
Queen of Little Five Points on her giant pumkin float.
To promote
community involvement, all L5P businesses andf B.O.N.D. community
residents are encouraged to participate by building there own
floats that will be judged by a panel of local artists. Cash prizes
will be awarded to the first, second, and third place winners.
The parade
starts at the corner of Austin and Euclid Avenues and it will
end at Euclid and North Avenue near Goldsboro Park. To register

posted at www.l5phalloween.com.
Applications are also available at participating local merchants
beginning in September. Put on your costume and get down to Little
Five Points! (some of you won't need costumes!)

The Carter Presidential Library houses the museum of the Jimmy Carter
Library and features exhibits, interactive video programs, and films
that illustrate and track the modern development and career of President
Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States.
Located only a short walk from Little Five Points, The
Jimmy Carter Presidential Library is an international center for
peace. It resides on a beautiful and serene 30-acre hilltop just
east of downtown. Officially in Inman Park, the Center contains
the 27 million official documents, 1.5 million photographs, 900
hours of video and audiotapes, and 40,000 gifts collected through
the term of President Jimmy Carter. The knoll on which the center
is situated is one of the highest elevations in the city and overlooks
one of the best views of Atlanta.Interestingly, General William
T. Sherman directed the battle of Atlanta from this very hill, Copenhill.
The center is adjacent to the Freedom Parkway which carries
local traffic to the I-75 and I-85 Interstate Exchange at International
Boulevard. Freedom Parkway ends at both Ponce de Leon Avenue and
Moreland Avenue. Inner cities bicycle PATH transverses the landscaped
center. The path is usually quite busy with joggers and bikers on
a sunny day. The Center is cared for and owned by the National Archives.
The Center opens daily except Thanksgiving, Christmas Day
and New Years Day. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 a.m. - Monday through Saturday.
Noon to 5 p.m. - Sundays. A donation of $2.50 is requested of persons
18 and older. |
