Star(bucks) Wars in Little Five Points

Since this last Saturday, September 31st, their has been a bitter and acrid taste in the mouths of a few hot brew drinkers in Little Five Points.  After many months of construction and anticipation, the corporate owned 'STARBUCKS' has just arrived
at it's brand new location on Moreland Avenue at the former site of the old L5P Volkswagon Repair Center.  Yep, there it is, and it's open for business and the coffee is hot and fresh!

The bright renovation of this former gas station into a mini plaza containing a world  reknown coffee shop and a new dry-cleaning facility, heralds an important turning point in the rebirth of Little Five Points.  Good or bad, this will definitely not be the last international corporation surfacing in our sometimes quiet, sometimes crazy little neighborhood.  Atlanta is growing up and inward.  It had to come to this.

Everyone wants in on a good thing.  The way we accept or reject our new neighbors will say volumes about the people that live here in Little Five.  There may be a few wide eyed looks from down the street as people line up, as they usually do in the early morning, to consume their hot mojo, croissant, and peruse their local periodicals.  I am of course referring to our long time favorite coffee spot, 'AURORA COFFEE'.

But from what I read in the AJC, you will probably only be allowed to read some "yankee" paper from NYC in that new coffeehouse.  No CL, Stomp, or even Revolution!  This may not be considered very neighborly and will definitely strike at the heart of what Little Five Pointers have come to think of themselves.  Time will tell.

Though I have heard it said, if you drink enough coffee, you will eventually become clear headed or maybe just talk too much.  Ultimately the local market will decide whether Starbucks will survive and prosper.  Will they join us in the spirit of community?  Something to talk about.  I think I'll have to drink a few cups of coffee and think about it.
